“A healthy man wants a thousand things,
a sick man only wants one.”
Hey there,
This past week I was deathly sick. Stuck to my bed with writhing body aches, fluctuating between a high fever and cold sweats, and experiencing soreness all over.
Not good. 🤒
I was kicked out of my normal routines. Unable to work and write code. Unable to run and train hard. And most importantly, unable to start the newsletter that you’re reading here today.
All I was able to do was rest in bed.
Rest.
Then it dawned on me. Sometimes, the best thing that you can do is rest. In our world of constant hustle and bustle, we’re seen as lazy as if we take a day off. But, once you change your perspective, you realize that sometimes rest is the most productive thing you can do.
In Marathon training, you load up and increase your mileage week over week. Until you reach the last 2 weeks, and the “taper” begins. The taper is a tactical decision to rest your legs and freshen them up for race day, on purpose.
Rest is good.
And while yes, even though “healthy” Ricky had a thousand things planned for Monday, “sick” Ricky only wanted one thing: to lay in bed, as it was the best thing I could do.

P.S. I’m taking this newsletter seriously as a “public journal” for the year ahead. I don’t have it all figured out yet, but my goal is to share insights from growing my career in tech, optimizing my health, building a wealthy life, and more.
P.P.S. Oh, and if you’d like to dive deeper into these sorts of things, feel free to follow me on Instagram @rickpala_ or read more of my newsletters once I publish them.
If you’re wondering how you ended up here, you’ve either downloaded or purchased a product from me, or subscribed directly. If you’d like to unsubscribe, no hard feelings :)
